Quick Summary: Here’s a short introduction to Kay and how she can help — you can read more about her below.

Kaye is a Relate and Tavistock trained individual and couples’ therapist with a Psychology degree and a foundation degree in Relationship Counselling. Offering online counselling, she helps couples and individuals move through challenges such as communication breakdown, loss of connection, ongoing conflict, and betrayal. Warm and approachable, Kaye provides a safe, non-judgemental space where you can talk openly, explore patterns, and decide on the best way forward — whether that’s reconnecting or separating more amicably.

More From Kay

Hello, my name is Kaye Barney and I’m a fully qualified individual and couples’ therapist, trained with both Relate and Tavistock. I hold a degree in Psychology and a foundation degree in Relationship Counselling.

Relationship counselling is my second career, building on many years of experience in commercial organisations, where I developed a strong understanding of human motivation and behaviour. Alongside this, my life experience has given me insight into the challenges people face at different stages of relationships. Today, I bring these skills together to help couples and individuals resolve their difficulties and find a healthier way forward.

I understand how daunting it can feel to start therapy. You may be unhappy in your relationship, stuck in repetitive arguments, or unsure whether to stay or leave. You might feel resentment simmering, fear betrayal, or worry that you’ve lost the spark that once brought you together. Whether you come alone or with your partner, I’ll provide a calm, confidential space where you can explore what’s going on and begin to make sense of your situation.

Background/Experience

I bring a variety of related skills and experience to my work as a counsellor. I’ve always been interested in human motivations, behaviour and relationships, which is what fuelled my first degree in Psychology.

This was followed by a long career in the commercial sector, where I worked with different types of organisations understanding the needs, behaviours and attitudes of their target markets.

Along the way I gathered various marketing and business skills and qualifications. I also volunteered as a Samaritan and a mentor for ‘The Princes Trust’ and as a Mental Health First Aider in the workplace.

I worked for ‘Relate’ for a number of years, alongside my own private practice and now Online Couples Counselling.

I also teach therapy to students and work with other counsellors as a clinical supervisor. This involves ensuring they work safely according to best practice protocols and an ethical framework.

How Kaye can help you

  • I’ll create a safe space where you and your partner both feel supported and equally heard.
  • Together, we can unpick the arguments that keep going round in circles and explore the patterns that might be holding you back.
  • I’ll help you improve the way you communicate, so you can find new ways of talking and really listening to each other.
  • If there’s been betrayal or a loss of trust, I’ll support you with empathy and sensitivity as you work through it.
  • We can also look at your options, whether that’s rebuilding your connection or separating in a more respectful way.
